Usually, Sinhala and Tamil New Year (Aluth Avrudu) falls on April 13th and 14th, symbolizing the ending of the old year, and the beginning of the New Year. The first signs of spring remind Sri Lankans that its time for a spectrum of festivities,
which encompass rhythmic beats on the Rabana a one-sided traditional drum), sweet delicacies, and the melodies of the koel, a stringed instrument used to sing in New Year.
Sinhalese and hindu’s organizes new year festivals (Awrudu Uthsawaya) during New year season. Seethadevi Girls’ prefect board organized a New Year festival with new year games (Awrudu Tharaga) which added more colour to this event. New year celebrations were held in compliances with all the health guidelines and maintaining the social distance.
The new year festival was held on the 2021/04/08 at school playground with the participation of madam prinicipal. First, all the traditional customs were performed at the festival. Many games were organized like finding mystery guest, fancy dress, awrudu kumariya, best crying, best laugh etc. And the winners were awarded with the gifts
